Business Profile:
“Collectables” is a high end Fashion store with a strong emphasis on customer service and quality. They have enjoyed a loyal following in St. John NB and area for many years.
Pearl the owner shows great attention to detail with her customers and this has paid off well for her.
Since you already had a successful store what prompted you to invest in a Point of Sale system?
That is the reason we realized we had to automate…it was just getting too difficult to see what was really going on with the inventory. Also customer sales history was becoming critical for us. We needed to know who was buying what. |

What features do you find most useful on a day to day basis?
The ability to effectively manage a fashion inventory is key for us. We can quickly create a style with all its sizes and colors, label it and get it on the floor.
Because we have assigned season codes to our entire inventory we have meaningful reports that we can generate to show who bought how much in the current season, or last season for example. The speed and accuracy at the Point of Sale combined with the ease of use of RMS has made life a lot easier for us.
How did you find the process of installing RMS and getting it live?
The staff at Retail Management Systems was great to work with and they were able to teach us how to use the system quickly. There are great tools in RMS that allow us to create large amounts of fashion inventory quickly and that really sped up the process. Although we have never met the guys at RMS face to face they have incredible high speed connection software that allows them to see our screens quickly any time we need them.
Our training and installation were all done this way and it worked great. For someone like myself it was much easier because the training and installation were done in 1 hour sessions or so and that allowed me to absorb the material much better than having it crammed into an all day session.

Why did you choose Microsoft Retail Management System?
I knew this was going to be a once in a lifetime decision and I wanted to pick a solution that would still be around in 20 years and I certainly have that confidence with Microsoft.
I know that they will continue to develop this software and I will benefit from the millions that are spent in enhancing it.
What would you say to another Fashion Retailer considering a Point of Sale purchase?
That’s easy. The longer you wait the further away the benefit is and you need the benefits of a good system to compete today. The Microsoft decision seems obvious to me. |
