The Golf Dome, in Mississauga Ontario, has been in operation for several years, offering a successful combination of an indoor golf driving range with golf lessons, together with a Pro Shop and a licensed food facility suitable for catered and corporate events, for the fall and winter season.

Can you tell us how you have handled your POS requirements over the last few years ?
We have found that although we rent buckets of balls during quiet periods, the most efficient way to deal with busy times is the rental of time for each of the forty-four golf lanes. As a result we used an older dos system that had been designed to accommodate this. Because of its age we were having increasing difficulty with the system and were worried about it failing entirely in the middle of the season. Last summer during the off-season we did some searching and after contacting Microsoft we were put in contact with Retail Management Systems. After a detailed RFP process with them to see if the Microsoft system would meet our requirements, the programmers at RMS were able to create an add-on to the Microsoft Retail Management System that dealt with our lane rental requirement nicely. With the normal POS functions handled efficiently by Microsoft Retail Management System and the rental aspect resolved we knew we had a positive solution to our operating system.
How did the installation process go?
We installed through the fall and were ready for the busy winter season. RMS were great and helped us through each stage of the process. The staff got on to the system in pretty short order and we went through the season with no real issues to speak of. Lane Rental Management is intuitive, easy to use and gives us a completely detailed solution to our lane rentals.
What other functions of RMS do you find useful?
The Customer Search function has been helpful for sure…as we are able to add new customers without going through a whole question and answer process at the keyboard. We just ask for the phone number and the software grabs their information from the internet.
The POS functions are easy to use and opening and closing are no problem. We don’t have a huge amount of inventory but what we do have is handled well by the system.
Overall what comments would you have to make?
We enjoyed working with the RMS and in fact are currently looking at RMS for another non-related operation. The requirements we had at the Golf Dome were very specific and they were able to work through all technical details with us and come up with a really functional solution.
