"Maxwell James"
is a start up Jean and casual wear store in New Jersey. Tammy the owner and her partner identified a need for such a store in their area and have been open for about a year.

What were your criteria in sourcing a POS system?


We had to find a system that would be quick and easy for us to learn and operate since we are new to retail and did not want to get bogged down with software and hardware problems. It seemed logical to go with the largest software company in the world since they had over 25000 stores using the system.

How was the learning curve for you?

Well as mentioned considering that I had no experience in retail or POS systems it was very easy. RMS has the ability to create 3 dimensional size color items very quickly and since this is about 95% of our inventory it really lowered the pain threshold in getting all our items into the system and labeled. The day to day use of the system is no problem and it is very stable so staff is able to manage without assistance.



What features are important to you in building your business?


The ability to see margin reports by supplier and to see sales by size and color are important with high end Jeans. I do not want to be over inventoried and neither do I want to be out of stock for in demand styles. It is important for me to know accurately what I have on hand at any given moment. I can generate PO’s based on what has sold as well as min max levels so that I can optimize my inventory on an ongoing basis. Also we sell a lot of Gift Cards and the convenience of having fully integrated Credit Card processing and Gift Cards from Mercury Payments have really helped sales. There is always the tendency of a Gift Card holder to purchase more than the value of the card.

How did the installation process go?

The RMS-POS team was very helpful in training us and setting every thing up for us. We had all of our inventory in and ready to go by opening. Since the store was not ready for us to get into until very close to opening we were able to work from home and just moved everything over to the store when it was ready. The support team connected to our screen remotely and it was just as if they were here helping us.

Would you recommend Microsoft Retail Management System?

Yes for sure. We started from scratch to learn a new system and retail at the same time and RMS has been an invaluable partner. We had to be very careful with budget starting out and the fact the financing was available and we had confidence in the system made all the difference.
