Business Profile:
"Scrapbooks by Design" is a full scrapbook supply store in the trendy “Beaches” area of Toronto. Catering to the local area as well as customers across the Greater Toronto Area and beyond, there is little in the way of scrapbook supplies that cannot be found in this store. Pat Piatte and his wife are the owner operators of this attractive store.
Pat what has been your experience with Point of Sale since you opened?
We started out with Quick Books point of sale initially because we liked their accounting functions and were familiar with it. We discovered after a few months however that there was a limit to the number of items the database could hold. This was a pretty serious limitation for us considering we have an ever expanding number of items. In addition we were surprised to discover that Quick Books had discontinued sales and support of their POS product. We decided that we had to find another solution before we went much further. I found out that Microsoft had a Point of Sale solution and decided to look into it.
I called Microsoft and they had their business partner Ian McLean of Retail Management Systems call me and discuss my requirements. I was really pleased to find out that they could import our QB inventory file into RMS since this would save us a ton of work. After looking at the software with Ian I pretty much decided to go ahead immediately and get the job done.
What was the installation experience like?
It went very well. The Point of Sale is so easy to use we were literally feeling comfortable in a couple of hours. The inventory management functions are very coherent and the inventory import went off great. As I mentioned we have a lot of inventory and we are able to find items quickly and move customers through the point of sale in no time.
Are there any other comments you would like to make?
Yes…before we installed RMS we had already made a considerable investment in our website www.scrapbooksbydesign.ca The open back end of the RMS database allowed us to integrate our web site with RMS and this is giving us a growing source of revenue. If I have anything else to say it is only that I wish I had done this earlier.
